Chapter 518

“About time,” Arthur growled, staring at the mist-filled surroundings. No white or beige walls, just these endless mists that hid the world around him. He could move, though he felt no curiosity at exploring the surroundings. He’d read enough to know that most cases, this was an endless land, utterly empty except for the notifications that floated in front of him.

Congratulaions! Clan Controls Upgraded
Arthur snorted, wondering what exactly they had done that would have caused that. No way to know, the Tower never explained. It likely had to do with a number of factors including the number of Towers he had cleared, the floors in those Towers, their Clan numbers and the buildings they had built. Probably a few other factors too, like how much beast stones they utilized and other contribution points created by their people in the Towers.
There was no reason they could not have found out, data given out to people so that each new Clan Head could try to hit their upgrades in the most efficient way possible.Except, of course, doing so would require the sharing of information and few Clans or Guilds dared to do that – it just would make them a target.
Dismissing those thoughts, Arthur turned back to the next notification that came after the congratulations.
Additional Clan building status and details on each floor now available!
Additional financial details available!
Additional roles available! Enforcer and Tower Overseer positions now available!
Clan Head may select one additional Clan advantage from list below:
- Tower tithe
- Quest board
- Clan library (minor)
- Clan clinic
- Inter-Tower Communication (Designated Roles only)
Arthur licked his lips, staring at the list. A little surprised to see the information before him. Not that it was entirely a surprise – Casey had hinted that such a thing was coming – but the details were, as usual, hidden. Not that it wasn’t impossible to find something, but he was a bit surprised by some of the options available, since exactly what the Tower offered was often dependent on the Clan itself and what they had been doing or what they had selected.
For example, the lack of a Clan armory or Clan stores was likely due to the fact that they just were not craftsmen, and while everyone fought, they had a wider variety of people with the addition of the Dakha Tower than a pure fighting Clan. A pity, that they lacked either option; though those would eventually appear on the next upgrade.
The Clan library, clinic or stores allowed different floors in different Towers to share their supplies across Towers. Not outside in the real world still, of course, and what could be shared was strictly limited. Still, it meant that his artisans in Dakha for example could have transferred some magical utility items to those in Malaysia if he had been able to trigger it.
On the other hand, the Clan library was a little more widely useful; since he could put the whole library – all his information that he acquired from the Tower – in there and everyone could access them at any time. Well, within limits he imposed.
Negative part? It was only Tower enabled items, not like the physical or derived skills and cultivations techniques that they themselves wrote and created. It made it less useful in that sense, and why it was not something Arthur was that interested in choosing. At least not as his first major upgrade.
On the other hand, the Clinic had to do with their Sigil and his own Skill. The Phoenix must have been the tipping point for why they had such an option here, and it made sense to give it to them. Arthur just wasn’t sure how much of an upgrade it would be to their healing ability or if they could open the Clinic to other Climbers.
If they could open it, it could be quite a useful secondary source of cores. If not, it would be a waste considering their Sigils and Aspects might be upgrading soon.
Tower tithe was a useful one, and quite often the most chosen early upgrade. It basically meant that any Clan quests cleared by their people were automatically taxed, and added to the local boss’s treasury. It did not, at this stage, allow them to transfer the cores out of the Tower, however.
Still, it was a decent amount of additional income, and one that barely affected Clan members so there was very little grumbling about its introduction. Most people were used to the idea of getting taxed anyway; and once the Clan grew large enough, the income stream could be significant.
Quest board on the other hand was another global upgrade. He could put new quests on it for everyone, that might be something as simple as ‘get me X amount of cores’ or ‘make me Y amount of enchanted shoes’ which would then populate. It gave him a way to control his people and talk to them about needs…
Though if he wanted to talk to his people within, then all he had to do was acquire the Inter-Tower communication option. Not that he could speak with someone directly inside the Tower just yet, but that was the way that upgrade role went.
Eventually, he’d be able to have conversations with them; the first upgrade just let his Tower Boss’s to talk directly. Most corporations and bigger Clans were more interested in core upgrades or money, of course; but Arthur was trying to run the entire thing differently after all.
Which meant… Well, he wasn’t sure what it meant for his choice.
