What Do Gods & Demons Have in Common?
Perhaps nothing, perhaps a lot. A glimpse into a world where an immortal and a demon partake in meal while plotting moves that will shake the middle kingdom and share gossip of other, more contentious issues.
This is a 3,000 word short story set in the A Thousand Li universe featuring as yet to be seen characters in the universe. Does not need to be read to follow the main series.

I read On Gods and Demons late, reading it after The Third Realm instead of after The Second Sect. I think because of that, I found this short story a little unsatisfying. It felt like it was probably meant to be foreshadowing the events of The Third Cut, but it was vague enough to feel more like a slightly cruel tease than just an appetite whetter! It did make me wonder if the cook was Mo Meng though (The Nameless Restaurant were my first Tao Wong books and I am so curious about those characters!!! I know it’s meant to tie into some of his other works and the demeanor of the chef really reminded me of him!). I’m loving the Thousand Li series in general and have enjoyed the short stories, but my favourite is the Divine Peak and this story didn’t reach those heights.
A nice detour, short and sweet. I especially liked the chef/proprietor. Woud love to get into his story or something similar.
